Since 1971

The Comarco Group was established in Mombasa, Kenya in 1971 before expanding its range of activities and area of operations throughout the Indian Ocean and along the entire eastern Africa seaboard and interior.

As the inheritor of these many years of operating experience, Maast Maritime will continue to provide and grow these services to our inland and offshore customers in the construction, logistics and hydrocarbon sectors, amongst others.

As well as acquiring Comarco’s fleet of tugs, barges, supply vessels and specialized equipment for offshore, close shore and beach operations, Maast Maritime has acquired Comarco’s supply base, a privately-owned harbour-fronting property, 2 kilometres from Mombasa Port, of approximately 16 acres and which includes over 40,000 m² of storage space, office space and facilities.

Building on the Fifty-Year Heritage

Maast Maritime will build on the fifty-year heritage established by the Comarco group as it transforms the group from a family-owned business to a refreshed international corporate service provider operating to the latest international standards.

Maast Maritime will continue to expand on the group’s operating capacity in the marine services and logistics domain and transform the existing supply base into a modern terminal capable of handling bulk and break-bulk cargo in and out of Kenya.

"The acquisition of the Comarco Group companies in Kenya creates an exciting platform for Maast Maritime Group to build on.

We are looking forward to developing both the marine and terminal businesses to their fullest potential as we expand the companies’ existing service offering along the East African seaboard.

These companies have an undoubted heritage, with which we also inherit an experienced and technically knowledgeable staff, now supplemented with a new and dynamic management team, a new brand in Maast Maritime and a new energy to service existing and future clients’ needs with the highest standards of professionalism."

Tom Swithenbank, Director of Maast Maritime Group

"It’s an honour and privilege to be introducing Maast today. Rarely does one get the chance to combine fresh perspective and revitalised energy with the vast legacy and experience that this company has in its DNA and that is what we have here. It’s a tremendous opportunity to renew our passion for the work that we do, elevate the standards of professionalism with which we conduct ourselves to ensure that our clients are afforded services that will enhance our reputation.

Our employees have made great sacrifices to get us into this position and our stakeholders have shown tremendous patience and support in accommodating us on this journey. To you all I extend my heartfelt thanks, we will not be taking your contributions for granted and with a refurbished fleet, optimised yard and expanding market we are perfectly placed to capitalise on Mombasa and Kenya’s huge potential.

I’m delighted to share our vision for the future with you and am confident that great things for Maast await."
